Heart shaped medieval purse

Dated to the second half of the 14th century to the first half of the 15th century (Blusiewicz, 2017 Fig. XII.21)

A medium-sized medieval girdle purse, found in the Polish town of Puck. The connection between the loops and the rest of the purse in this way seems typical for the second half of the 14th century and has a number of analogous finds from Gdańsk and several from Dordrecht (Obročníková, 2025), Greifswald (Schäfer and Schäfer, 1998) and Magdeburg (Nickel, 1980). The loops of the original were also decoratively stitched around the edges.

Most of the pouch is made of vegetable tanned cowhide , while the inner soft light-colored parts are made of fat-tanned deerskin. The inside seams of the purse are machine-stitched, while the visible seams are hand-stitched with silk thread. The outer pouchlets are sewn with a cross-stitch, as was done on medieval originals.
