Medieval girdle purse from Dordrecht

Dated 1380–1450

Medieval pouch based on a find from Dordrecht (inv. no. 7601.731.002, (Obročníková, 2025a)) This type of girdle purse with a flap and wings was common from the end of the 14th century to the beginning of the 15th century. This pouch is not precisely dated in the Dordrecht collection.

The purse is made of vegetable tanned cowhide, with the inner soft light-colored parts made of fat-tanned deerskin. The entire purse is hand-sewn using linen and silk threads. The outer pockets are sewn with a cross-stitch, as was done on medieval originals.
