dated 14th-15th century (Frolík, Sigl 1998)
The bag is made according to a very well-preserved piece from medieval Chrudim. The original has retained its entire outer part and parts of the inner panel of the front pocket. According to O. Goubitz's conclusions, these inner parts hold soft inner parts made of fabric or white leather. My interpretation uses fat-tanned deerskin. Neither the records nor closer examination made it possible to determine the shape of the front panel of the back pocket. In this interpretation, the front panel of the back pocket with additional pouchlets was used according to the find from Gdańsk (inv. no. MAG/GD/255/20/48/1296).
Purses of this shape are common in sculptural decorations and illuminations of their time in Bohemia and the Holy Roman Empire (e.g., Liber viaticus 1360, figure of the presbyter of St. James the Greater Church in Drahoňov, dated to the last quarter of the 14th century, statue of Theoderich von Lichtenhayn, die Predigerkirche in Erfurt, Germany, 1366, etc.). In terms of size and shape, it is very similar to the pouch from Haarlem (NL - Goubitz 2007, fig. 18) or Dordrecht (NL - Goubitz 2007, fig. 39).
The pouch is made of vegetable tanned cowhide. The soft part of the front pocket is made of fat-tanned deerskin. The seams are hand-stitched, with cross-stitching in visible areas using naturally dyed woolen thread, and linen twine on the internal structural seams.
